Legislative Monday: Gas Tax Increase

In October, the Governor's Transportation 2020 Citizen Advisory Commission recommended an eight to ten cents per gallon gas tax increase to generate funding for Iowa's roads and infrastructure. Governor Terry Branstad hasn't ruled out signing a gas tax increase, but would rather find efficiencies in the Department of Transportation to boost funding for infrastructure.  Host Joyce Russell talks with the Iowa DOT Director Paul Trombino III and a Keokuk County Supervisor about whether enough efficiencies can be found at the state and county levels to fund needed repairs.  Then Transportation Committee Chairs Rep. David Tjepkes and Senator Tom Rielly discuss a bill to raise the gas tax, and Ryan Rhodes from the Iowa Tea Party explains his opposition.
