IPR's new monthly Classical Request show debuts Friday, March 31st at 2PM. Here's how to take part!

Is there a classical piece you'd love to share on Iowa's airwaves? Now you can. IPR's monthly classical request feature will debut on Barney's show on Friday, March 31st, from 2-4 PM, and it's easy to participate. Here's how:

1.) Send your request by email to classical-request@iowapublicradio.org by midnight, Thursday, March 30th.

2.) Ask not for just one, but for two pieces (in case one of your choices was also requested by someone else, or if IPR Classical is already broadcasting your request on another show within the week).

3.) Choose pieces that you think would appeal to many other Iowa Public Radio listeners. As you know, some highly dissonant pieces are historically important but cause almost all listeners to tune out instantly (and I do realize that devotees really love these pieces). Keep in mind our mission of helping all of Iowa, including newcomers, discover classical music. That said, feel free to ask for whatever you genuinely want to share with Iowa, whether it's on or off the beaten track.

4.) Try to limit the length of the piece you request to about 20 minutes. (If you want to hear a long symphony, feel free to ask, but we may be able to play just one or two movements.)

Let us know what you'd like to hear, or just tune in on Friday to hear what fellow IPR listeners have requested. Thanks!
