Iowa Public Radio Names Executive Director

The Board of Directors of Iowa Public Radio has named Myrna Johnson as its Executive Director effective January 27, 2014.

“After an extensive search process that began in April we are pleased Myrna has agreed to join us on January 27, 2014.  Her impressive resume, exceptional references, adept interview and public presentation skills give us great confidence in her leadership and her fundraising capabilities.  I’m confident our staff, board, donors, underwriters and listeners will enjoy working with her” said Douglas West, Chair of the search committee. 

Johnson has been the Executive Director for the Boston Schoolyard Initiative since January of 2009.  Johnson has spent her 31-year career in non-profit management, including 8 years as a Government Relations Associate for National Public Radio in Washington, DC and service on the board of directors of KUNC-FM in Greeley, CO.  In addition, Johnson was Managing Director of the National Forum on Children and Nature and Director of Government Affairs for the Outdoor Industry Association.  Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA and a master’s in public administration from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA.
