Dumplings/Food Safety

This country was largely settled on dumplings - Puritan housewives of New England brought the dumpling tradition across the Atlantic, and nearly a century later, the pioneers took it with them in their covered wagons. Kurt Michael Friese of Iowa City says the cooked balls of dough give us the warm and cozy feelings of home. He'll tell us the story of his family's long-standing tradition of liver dumpling soup. Also, Jan Temple of Iowa State University Extension tells us about the "4-Day Throw-Away" campaign, an effort to keep us free from food-borne illnesses.
