Arias in April Closes with CROT’s “Don Giovanni”

CROT

The final broadcast of the 2016 Arias in April series features the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. It airs on Saturday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 at 11:00 p.m.

Mozart’s masterpiece revolves around the womanizing scoundrel Don Giovanni (fashioned after the legendary Don Juan). The performance, under the baton of CROT’s founder and artistic director Daniel Kleinknecht, along with the University of Oklahoma professor and guest director William Ferrara, provides a mixture of comedy and tragedy. The plot follows Don Giovanni as he continues down a path that eventually leads to his own destruction. Baritone Christopher Burchett performs the title role of Don Giovanni, with baritone Lee Poulis as his servant, Leporello. Soprano Veronica Mitina appears as Donna Elvira; soprano Danielle Talamantes as Donna Anna; soprano Jessica Pray as Zerlina; tenor Jonathan Blalock sings the role of Don Ottavio; and Samuel Wright performs as Masetto.
