Symphonies of Iowa DMSO Encore Broadcast, July 15, 2013
Please join Iowa Public Radio in a encore broadcast of Maestro Giunta and the Des Moines Symphony opening their seventy-fifth season on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 7 P.M. with music from the Austrian film composer, Ernest Korngold. Korngold’s music for the 1935 film Captain Blood helped pioneer the symphonic film score as a new art form.
Music from Wagner’s early opera Lohengrin is followed by the world premiere of a new work by Emmy Award-winning composer Steve Heitzeg, commissioned to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary season of the Des Moines Symphony. Closing the program is Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, an exotic four-movement suite inspired by the Arabian Nights.
