Creating Unity Through Music

Peter Yarrow rose to fame in the 1960’s as one third of the folk trio, “Peter, Paul and Mary.” The group was known for their political activism as much as they were known for their music. Yarrow says it wasn't the music that motivated him. “It wasn’t just about the music, it was about its ability to unite people in common cause.”

During this Talk of Iowa interview, host Charity Nebbe talks with Yarrow about how he keeps his music fresh and what keeps him performing after all these years. We also hear about his program “Operation Respect,” which he founded after Peter, Paul and Mary started performing the song “Don’t Laugh at Me.” The organization creates curriculum that confronts bullying, ridicule and violence among school-aged children.
