Performance Iowa Live Broadcast of CROT's Carmen, January 19, 2014 at 2 p.m.
Love, lust, betrayal, and revenge all simmer during the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre’s production of Bizet’s Carmen. Mezzo soprano and Iowa native, Janara Kellerman, sings the title role of the gypsy seductress. Tenor Alok Kumar plays the love-struck Don José, and baritone Philip Torre appears as the handsome toreador Escamillo.
Iowa Public Radio’s Studio One presented a sneak peek of this performance on Tuesday January 14th. Our musical glimpse included Janara Kellerman and Alok Kumar, along with several other performers: Mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Bieber presenting Carmen’s gypsy friend Mercédès, Soprano Meagan Brus singing the role of Carmen’s gypsy pal Frasquita, Tenor Eric Ferring performing as the smuggler Le Remendado, Baritone Chad Sonka portraying the smuggler Le Dancaïre, and Bass Jeremy Galyon presenting the role of Zuniga the Lieutenant of the Dragoon. Dr. John Hollins and Tony Nickle performed at the Keyboard.
Guest stage director Bill Ferrara and CROT’s music director Daniel Kleinknecht bring the opera to life.
