Making the Best of an Icy Winter
For people who love winter, this has been a great one. Enough snow and plenty of cold to get out and enjoy outdoor activities. This hour, host Charity Nebbe talks with people who love winter and the ice it brings.
In the winter of 2000, Don Briggs solved a problem most of us didn't even know we had; he figured out how to ice climb in Iowa by creating walls of ice on unused silos. Charity sits down with Briggs to talk about how this idea became a unique Iowa sport. Charity also talks with figure skating coach Burton Powley and one of his students, Mariah Grassi. Then, Ron Hall joins the program to talk about the beautiful sculptures he creates out of ice each winter.
