Announcing Weekend Schedule Changes

Iowa Public Radio will be making some exciting changes to our weekend schedule, effective July 19, 2014. We are committed to bringing the best in national and local programming to the IPR audience.  Upcoming weekend changes bring popular new shows to our FM News/Studio One service and expand local music programming on Saturday afternoon (Studio One) and Sunday (Classical). Click here to see all the changes.

HIGHLIGHTS

Popular national shows now on FM News/Studio One and at new times on AM News:

  • The Moth comes to Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. on IPR's FM News/Studio One and AM News, as well as Saturdays at 1 p.m. on the AM News stream. The Moth features “true stories told live.” Showcasing the great range of human experience, each show starts with a theme, and the storytellers explore it, often in unexpected ways. The Moth is a unique, intimate, and often enlightening experience for all.
  • Ask Me Another will now air Sundays at 11 a.m. on both the FM News/Studio One stream and the AM News stream. Ask Me Another is a rambunctious hour that blends brainteasers and local pub trivia night with comedy and music. Host Ophira Eisenberg invites in-studio guests and listeners alike to stretch their noggins, tickle their funny bones, and enjoy witty banter and guitar riffs from house musician Jonathan Coulton.
  • NEW to IPR! Ted Radio Hour comes to IPR’s News stream, 6 p.m. Sundays. Ted Radio Hour is a journey through fascinating ideas, astonishing inventions, and new ways to think and create. Based on Talks given by riveting speakers on the world-renowned TED stage, each show is centered on a common theme – such as the source of happiness, crowd-sourcing innovation, power shifts, or inexplicable connections – and injects soundscapes and conversations that bring these ideas to life.

Locally-hosted music expands on FM News/Studio One and FM Classical:

  • Backtracks with Bob Dorr returns to its 3-hour format Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.  on FM News/Studio One. Backtracks takes you back through the golden age of rock 'n' roll. Hosted by Bob Dorr, each show features music that is at least 25 years old and takes the time to delve into obscure rock 'n' roll history. It’s a wayback experience you can’t get anywhere else.
  • Classical Music with Barney Sherman comes to IPR Classical Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Around the world and around our state, people are writing music that goes straight to the heart, and performing older masterworks with the fluency of people speaking a native tongue. Barney's mission is to make it easy for you to connect to this new era of classical excellence, while providing you with musical companionship you can count on.

"Members and listeners across the state have told me how important IPR is in bringing you the best in national and local programming," says Myrna Johnson, Executive Director. "These programs join audience favorites like Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me, Car Talk, This American Life, Weekend Edition, and more, to entertain, delight and inform you on the weekend."
