Scott Ketelsen is the director of University Relations at the University of Northern Iowa. In this role, Ketelsen leads the development of integrated marketing, public relations and branding efforts, and is the primary contact for university issues and crisis management.
Ketelsen began his career in higher education in 1999 as the director of Operations for Continuing Education at Kirkwood Community College. In 2001, he was named director for Marketing Services at Kirkwood. While in this role, he was responsible for administering all advertising and public relations efforts affiliated with the college.
In September 2005, Ketelsen became the associate director of University Relations for Marketing Communications at the University of Iowa. His primary responsibility was to conceptualize, research, develop and implement integrated marketing plans for the university.
Ketelsen holds a master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations and communication from UNI. “My connectivity to Iowa Public Radio goes all the way back to my undergraduate days in Cedar Falls. I was a UNI student employee within the Communications Arts Center and would always try to be involved with the excitement surrounding KUNI. Today I listen to Morning Edition on the way to the office and All Things Considered on the way home. IPR is an essential element of my day.”
When he's not working, Ketelsen enjoys watching his children participate in sports or participating himself. He lives in Cedar Rapids with his wife Suzy, who is also a UNI alumna, and three children: Drew, 24, Amy, 21, and Adam, 16.
