First District Face-off

The candidates battling for an open First District Congressional seat are meeting for their first debate tonight. Iowa Public Radio's Pat Blank has a profile of the race.

Democrat Pat Murphy and Republican Rod Blum are well known in the Dubuque area. Blum is a businessman and Murphy is a long time state lawmaker.  But the first district also includes Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and many other towns west of the Mississippi.  Each candidate is using a different method to introduce himself to voters. Blum tells constituents he feels an obligation to run.

Appel and Young Debate: Round Two

Republican David Young and Democrat Staci Appel debated for the second time last night at Simpson College in Indianola. The two are running for retiring Congressman Tom Latham’s seat in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.

Appel was asked whether she supports taking passports from terrorists. In the candidates’ first debate Appel said she would not support legislation to seize passports from terrorists since the State Department already has that ability.

Hatch on Offensive in Burlington Debate

A debate between Governor Branstad and his Democratic challenger Jack Hatch in Burlington was  billed  as a  discussion about job creation.   But Hatch made sure he got in other  licks. 

 It was a local affair moderated by the Burlington Hawkeye, and KWQC-TV’s  Gary Metevier.

Viewership slipped from the first to the second Presidential debate, and is expected to dip even more as the candidates discuss foreign affairs. Clay Masters, guest hosts for Ben Kieffer, to spotlight some of the news from the final debate of the campaign. Watching the debate in Iowa

Both Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama took the stage for their final debate in Florida last night. In Iowa, the campaigns staged watch parties. Iowa Public Radio’s Sandhya Dirks reports that both camps believe their candidate went home with the win.
