2016 Hopefuls Parading Through Iowa

Seven potential GOP Presidential candidates are making their way to Iowa this week and next.  Host Ben Kieffer sizes up the hopefuls for the 2016 Iowa caucuses with University of Iowa Associate Professor of Political Science Tim Hagle, and Donna Hoffman, Chair of the Political Science Department at the University of Northern Iowa.  We know, the caucuses are still far away, but likely contenders are already here.  And like the holiday shopping season, it seems the Presidential vetting season is coming earlier and earlier.

Murky Waters and Pi Day

Though Iowa’s rivers and streams may look particularly scummy or murky, the DNR says the state’s waterways are perfectly fine. The murky appearance is caused by organic matter and is safe.

President Obama is taking some time off this week and visiting Martha's Vineyard with his family.  Host Ben Kieffer and Thomas Schwartz, director of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch, discuss the history and politics of vacationing presidents.  Also, 2016 maybe closer than it seems with three potential Republican presidential candidates visiting Iowa 29 months before the Iowa Caucus.

Paul Name Could Be Asset, or Liability, for Rand Paul

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) says he’s considering a run for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination. He headlined a fundraiser for Iowa Republicans Friday night in Cedar Rapids.

He may be picking up where his father, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tx.), left off his 2012 campaign.
