Iowa Public Radio’s Performance Iowa features the Des Moines Metro Opera’s 2012 performance of La Rondine (The Swallow.) Des Moines Metro Opera chose to bring this opera to life once again for their Fortieth Anniversary season after also performing it in their first year. The cast includes Joyce El-Khoury as Magda de Civry, making her Des Moines Metro Opera debut after being featured in Opera News and John Viscardi performing the poet Prunier.

Iowa Public Radio’s Performance Iowa kicks off their Opera in October series with performances featuring the Des Moines Metro Opera’s Fortieth Anniversary season.  Iowa Public Radio’s first broadcast showcases the Des Moines Metro Opera’s production of Mozart’s masterpiece Don Giovanni. The cast includes Marjorie Owens, as Donna Anna, and Zulimar Lopez-Hernandez, as Zerlina, who were both highlighted last summer in Opera News.

Iowa Public Radio Classical's Performance Iowa series presents a live broadcast of Orchestra Iowa's 2012 Brucemorchestra! program. Broadcast from the front lawn of the historic Brucemore Estate in Cedar Rapids, this year's Brucemorchestra! program features the American music of Gershwin, Grofé and Copland. Gershwin's impressionistic rhapsody An American in Paris portrays the story of a young American, absorbing the sounds of French culture as he strolls down the streets of Paris.

As the Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival’s sixth season prepares to open on July 21, Iowa Public Radio’s Performance Iowa series proudly presents a broadcast of the festival’s opening concert from their 2011 season, titled Gypsy Airs and Hungarian Dances. Founded in 2006, the CVCMF strives to bring classical music to new audiences in uniquely diverse venues. This program includes performances of Tajčević’s Seven Balkan Dances, Dvořák’s Gypsy Songs Op. 55 and Brahms’ Piano Quartet in G minor Op. 25.
