Something as simple as chair design could help elementary school students learn.

For years the common wisdom was that kids need to sit still and listen in order to concentrate. New research suggests that's not the case.

In a recently published study, Spyridoula Vazou, an assistant professor in the department of Kinesiology at Iowa State University, found that even ten minutes of cognitively complex movement improved concentration and focus in elementary students.

On this episode of Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe talks with Vazou and Constance Beecher, an assistant professor in Iowa State University's college of education, about how exercise and cognition can go hand in hand. Teachers Renee Person and Terri Boeding-Lincoln also join the conversation to explain how they integrate movement into their classrooms.
