Warden Patti Wachtendorf On First Few Months at the Iowa State Penitentiary

Aug 4, 2017

The Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison is home to more than 300 of Iowa's most dangerous inmates, or otherwise known as "lifers." Hundreds of other men serving time there will eventually return to their communities.

On this River to River segment, host Ben Kieffer talks with Patti Wachtendorf, warden of the maximum security Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, about the transition as warden of the Fort Madison penitentiary from the women's prison in Mitchellville, as well as the details of a recent fight in the yard that involved more than 50 men at the penitentiary.
