Childhood vaccinations have become a hot-button issue in the last week, following a measles outbreak at Disneyland and comments made by Rand Paul

Earlier this week in the midst of a measles outbreak at Disneyland, Rand Paul stated that vaccinations should be voluntary.

“I’ve heard of many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines. I’m not arguing vaccines are a bad idea, I think they’re a good thing, but I think the parents should have some input.”

Paul has since said his comments were misconstrued but his statement set off a string of statements on the subject by Republican 2016 hopefuls.

On this politics day edition of River to River, host Ben Kieffer talks with Hans Hassell of Cornell College and Dennis Goldford of Drake University about the vaccination comments, Grassley's role in Loretta Lynch's confirmation hearing, and Obama's new budget.
