An Ankeny couple is making two major gifts to support projects in their hometown. The money from Dennis and Susan Albaugh will be split between Des Moines Area Community College and the Ankeny School District.
The Albaughs are giving a million dollars to help DMACC expand its world-class Culinary Institute. Dennis Albaugh says he has a long history with the community college dating back to his school days.
“I don’t know if I was one of the first classes, but it was called Area 11, and then it became DMACC and I have watched that grow," he says. "I was in the first building out there and now it’s an unbelievable complex.”
The gift goes toward the five-point-six million dollar cost of the expansion.
The school expects to break ground on the project in April.
The Albaughs are also giving a million dollars to the Ankeny School District for renovation of Ankeny Stadium.
