Greek voters so despise their politicians that most lawmakers can't go out in public without being pelted by yogurt, eggs or worse. That's because Greeks blame politicians for causing the debt crisis by stealing money from public coffers and badly mismanaging the country's finances. Anti-austerity activists also blamed politicians for the public suicide of a 77-year-old retired pharmacist. But Greeks have also been extremely dependent on politicians over the last 40 years. In exchange for votes, politicians got them jobs and helped them bypass laws. Now that the money's run out, and foreign lenders are running Greece, the old political system is unraveling along with the rest of the country.
