Thrill Town Will Entertain Iowa State Fair's Smallest Thrill Seekers

This year, the Iowa State Fair’s youngest thrill seekers will be able to enjoy rides and games away from the faster, taller, scarier rides that are geared towards older children or adults.

Thrill Town is designed for the families who are still pushing around strollers. The idea is to create a calm, kid-friendly atmosphere that’s away from attractions like the "Haunted Mansion" or "Spaceroller."

"The moms that are watching those kids, and grandmas and grandpas, I think appreciate the fact it's a separate area," says Gary Slater, the fair's CEO and manager. "Whereas the big kids and adults aren't rushing from ride to ride and maybe making things a little bit chaotic."

Rides featured in Thrill Town include the "Dizzy Drago," "Grand Carousel" and "Tea Cups."

Provided there's good weather, Slater estimates more than a million people will attend the state fair this year. The event runs Aug. 10-20 on the east side of Des Moines.
