Please join Iowa Public Radio on Monday, September 16, at 7 p.m. for an encore broadcast of Orchestra Iowa’s Chamber Player's Third Concert .
The performance opens with LeClair’s Sonata for 2 Violins, Op. 12, No. 2. Despite darkness late in his life, LeClair is known for making a mark on the underrepresented genre of sonatas for two solo violins. This dazzling work is performed by a dynamic Orchestra Iowa viola duo. Next, Boccherini’s Trio in D minor, Op. 54, No. 5 comes to life with its captivating melodies. Finally, the concert closes with Mendelssohn’s Quintet No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op 87. This piece was unpublished at Mendelssohn’s death because he wasn’t completely satisfied with the last movement. However, it is now known as a mature Mendelssohn masterwork.
This concert was recorded on January 11, 2013 and January 13, 2013.
