Summer Produce, Made to Last

Sep 5, 2014

Like it or not, summer is nearly gone. But you don’t have to say goodbye to summer produce.

Jody Gatewood is an Extension Nutrition Specialist at Iowa State University. She says preservation has kept pace with the trend of eating local produce.

"All types of food preservation are becoming more popular."

“Canning is becoming more popular, but people are still doing the freezing and the dehydrating. So all types of food preservation are becoming more popular.”

In this hour of Talk of Iowa, Linda Naeve, Value Added Agriculture Program Specialist, joins Gatewood to answer listener questions about preservation.  Host Charity Nebbe also talks with Richard Jauron, an ISU Extension Horticulture Specialist, about your plant and garden questions.
