What's it look like when I host a Studio One show? You can find out this Thursday, March 5 at The Basement (901 Cherry Street) in Des Moines! IPR is excited to be taking Studio One out on the road for the first time, partnering with the Des Moines Social Club for the entire 7-10 pm show. I'll be playing new indie rock, singer-songwriters and roots-rock, plus a sprinkling of great older tracks. It will be just like our usual great mix, except that I'll be spinning the discs live with an audience of Basement patrons. I won't be taking requests this time out, but let me know what you'd like to hear, and I'll make a note of it for next time!
The highlight of the night will be a free show from the Des Moines band Canby, with the full (about 12-piece) band performing live on The Basement stage. Envy Corps drummer Scott Yoshimura began Canby around five years ago. The debut release Rat was very much a Yoshimura solo project. He wrote all the songs, produced the album himself, and played nearly all the instruments. The new Canby EP, titled Alive Inside, is just out. This time the music was created by a big band of musicians, complete with horn section and backup singers. Canby will take the stage at around 7:30 pm.
Come out to The Basement Thursday night for a great live show from Canby, plus see how radio is made!
