Water at this output base of the dam is being incrementally increased to a maximum of 20-thousand cubic feet per second, which will cause flooding in Iowa City. The water is expected to crest on June 8th, but officials say rainfall along the river system will affect the flood forecast. 5/30/2012 Credit Photo by Dean Borg In Iowa City, sand is loaded in wire mesh cages to create a barrier wall between the University of Iowa’s Mayflower dormitory and the Iowa River. 5/30/2013 Credit Photo by Dean Borg The University of Iowa’s Arts Center now has a steel flood wall to protect its buildings from possible flood waters.
