This week’s Symphonies of Iowa broadcast features Orchestra Iowa’s “New Frontiers” concert. It includes music composed by Milhaud, Mozart, and Schumann and features bassoonist Matthew Ransom.
Each composer broke new ground in their own unique way, whether it was the shocking embrace of 1920’s jazz idioms in Mihaud’s whimsical interpretation of the Creation of the World, Schumann’s exuberant romanticism in his 2nd Symphony or Mozart’s unprecedented precocious ease with his Basson Concerto. Tune in on Sunday, May 8 at 4 p.m. and again on Monday, May 9 at 7 p.m. for Iowa Public Radio’s Symphonies of Iowa broadcast!
