Social Media and Education Reform in the Legislature

John Pemble / Iowa Public Radio

Social media is influencing debate in Iowa's capital. The Governor's office posted a YouTube video to help drum up public support for his education reform proposal.   Also, lawmakers have been tweeting--candidly--during floor debate.  We talk with Tim Albrecht, Communications Director for the Branstad administration, Chris Larimer, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Northern Iowa and Des Moines Register columnist Kathie Obradovich about how social media impacts legislation.

Later, Sen. Herman Quirmbach, D-Ames, and Rep. Ron Jorgensen, R-Sioux City, join the program. They're charged with negotiating education reform.  We ask if they are any closer to a compromise.
