"Secrets of the Shell" Exhibit & The Missing Tortoise, Cashew

The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque is now home to more than 200 turtles and tortoises.  We explore the new exhibit “Turtles: Secrets of the Shell”, discuss the challenges facing turtles worldwide, and find out about Cashew, a leopard tortoise who has gone missing.

National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium officials are asking for the public's help to find Cashew. The tortoise weighs approximately 18 pounds and is more than 18 inches in diameter. Museum & Aquarium staff believe someone stole the animal and they are very concerned for the animals’ safety. The leopard tortoise requires a special diet and care to survive. It is apparent that somebody took the animal deliberately and is likely still in possession of the animal. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Museum & Aquarium at 563-557-9545.
