Reducing Binge Drinking on College Campuses

Seventy percent of University of Iowa students have engaged in high-risk drinking in the past two weeks and have had almost eight drinks per drinking occasion, according to the University of Iowa. The UI aims to decrease this to 55% and four drinks within the next three years. This hour, host Ben Kieffer takes a look at the UI's new Alcohol Harm Reduction Plan. We speak with Vice-President for Student Services, Tom Rocklin, and Susan Assouline, chairwoman of the planning committee for the reduction plan. We also speak with Linda Major, the Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Nebraska about Nebraska's drinking culture and how the university successfully changed the party atmosphere in Lincoln. In the second half of the show, we speak with multi-award winning journalist and author Craig Brandon about his new book, "The Five Year Party: How Colleges Have Given Up On Educating Your Child And What You Can Do About It."
