Former Pentagon worker Jim Mowrer will face first-term incumbent David Young on the 3rd Congressional District ballot this November. He defeated Desmund Adams and Mike Sherzan in the 3rd District Democratic primary. With nearly all precincts reporting, Mowrer had about 50-percent of the vote, Sherzan 36%, and Adams 14%.
Former Lt. Gov. Patty Judge has defeated three opponents in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary. She will try to unseat longtime incumbent Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley in November. Judge had a lead of 48-to-39 percent over her closest competitor, state Sen. Rob Hogg. Former state lawmakers Tom Fiegen and Bob Krause each had about seven-percent of the vote.
Cedar Rapids council member Monica Vernon has defeated former speaker of the Iowa House, Pat Murphy in the 1st Congressional District Democratic primary. This year's election was a rematch of the 2014 primary, which Murphy won. Vernon will face incumbent Republican Rep. Rod Blum in November.
Voters in Iowa's 4th Congressional District have chosen incumbent Rep. Steve King as the Republican nominee over state Sen. Rick Bertrand. King was leading Bertrand 62-to-38 percent. He will seek his eighth term in office this November.
In the 3rd District, Republican voters chose incumbent David Young over Joe Grandanette. Young had a lead of 82-to-18 percent in tonight's returns. He'll seek his second term in office this fall.
