Podcast: Under The Golden Dome Week 7 (2/25/2017)

Iowa's Capitol

There is lingering bitterness from last week's long debate about changing Iowa's collective bargaining laws.  On Monday afternoon, Democratic senators use their points of personal privilege to voice their disappointment and to ask more questions about the authorship of the bill.

Not everything is divisive in the legislature. On Wednesday, 16 bills passed in the House of Representatives, most on a 99-0 vote.  A bill that may be in the chambers soon is one that changes distracted driving while texting on a phone to a primary offense. A discussion with two senators and a member of the governor's traffic safety bureau.

We'll also hear about a medical marijuana bill to replace a 2014 expiring this summer, a gun bill expanding firearms rights, and how state departments are dealing with budget cuts they must implement very soon.

John Pemble is a reporter for IPR
