Podcast of CROT's "Man of La Mancha" Live Studio One Performance

On Tuesday, June 9, seven cast members from the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre’s production of “Man of La Mancha” gave a Performance Iowa revue live in Studio One. Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’s novel Don Quixote, Dale Wasserman’s version features a play within a play where the central character, Cervantes, and his fellow prisoners act out the story of the mad knight Don Quixote as they await a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition.

The CROT young artist cast features baritone Chad Sonka in the lead role as Don Quixote, as well as mezzo soprano Lauren Shun as Aldonza, James Smith as Sancho Panza, baritone Joel Rathmann as Padre/prisoner, bass Gabriel DiGennaro as barber/prisoner, soprano Katelyn Lee as Antonia/prisoner, and soprano Tara Morrow as housekeeper/prisoner, as well as conductor John Hollins and pianist Tony Nickle. These artists will share details about their upcoming performance and sing timeless favorites from the musical, including “Impossible Dream,” “I’m Only Thinking of Him,” “Dulcinea,” “I Really Like Him,” and more. Take a listen to the podcast below for the complete broadcast of the CROT's performance in Iowa Public Radio's Studio One.
