Performance Iowa July 8 and 9, 2012

As the Des Moines Metro Opera’s Fortieth Anniversary Season draws to a close, Iowa Public Radio’s Performance Iowa brings to you a recital by lyric baritone John Michael Moore. Before singing the title role in this season’s Eugene Onegin, Mr. Moore, a native Iowan and former apprentice artist with the DMMO, presented a guest artist recital at Simpson College with collaborative pianist Bernard McDonald. The recital opens with Don Giovanni’s seductive serenade, “Deh vieni all finestra,” from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, followed by selections from Schubert’s emotionally charged Schwanengesang. Other works on the program include Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (“Songs of a Wayfarer”), Poulenc’s Chanson Gaillardes, and Copland’s Old American Songs. The recital closes with two selections from Tchaikovsky’s Six Romances, op. 38.
