From Peking to Paris/Top Secret Rosies

If you were traveling from Beijing to Paris, driving would probably not be your first choice of transportation. But two Des Moines men made that trip this fall in exactly 349 hours in a 1929 Model A Ford and the car never broke down. This hour, IPR's Charity Nebbe speaks with Lang Wightman and Fritz James about their adventures in the 2010 "Peking to Paris Motor Challenge." Later in the hour, we hear from LeeAnn Erickson, producer of the new documentary, "Top Secret Rosies," which tells the story of a group of female mathematicians who did secret research for the U.S. Army during World War II.This tour of the documentary has been funded by a grant from the American Association of University Women, allowing Ms. Erickson to appear with the film.Upcoming area screenings:Monday, December 6, 2010Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences, Room 1505Capitol Street, between Burlington and WashingtonUniversity of Iowa, Iowa City, IAReception with the filmmaker-6:30pm, 7pm screening, followed by Q&A Tuesday, December 7, 2010Grinnell College Alumni Recitation Hall, ARH 3021226 Park Street, Grinnell, IA 501127pm screening, followed by Q&A with the filmmaker
