OI's "American Mystics" Features Young Concertmaster

Sep 13, 2017

This week’s Symphonies of Iowa encore features Orchestra Iowa’s “American Mystics” concert on Monday, September 18th at 7 p.m.

Orchestra Iowa Concertmaster Dawn Gingrich

The all-American program blends the evocative sounds of Alan Hovhaness’ Second Symphony, better known as Mysterious Mountain, with the haunting and distinct music of Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question. Howard Hanson’s “Romantic” Symphony No. 2 recalls the beautiful melodies and expansive orchestration of musical expression in the late 19th century. Orchestra Iowa Concertmaster Dawn Gingrich takes center stage as soloist, performing Samuel Barber’s virtuosic Violin Concerto. An accomplished soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, Dawn has performed around the globe, from Barcelona to Baltimore to Paris and more. She has won top prizes at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, and Music Academy of the West Concerto Competition. Dawn became Concertmaster of Orchestra Iowa in June 2015, following a year-long national search. Tune in on Monday, September 18th at 7 p.m. for IPR’s Symphonies of Iowa encore broadcast!
