Life at Iowa's Campgrounds

Lots of us like to go camping for the weekend, but what about for several weeks or months at a time?

Instead of dealing with leases and temporary housing as a part of his season with the Iowa Cubs, Blake Cooper, a pitcher for the Iowa Cubs, decided to live with his wife in a camper at the Adventureland campground in Altoona.

“You really don’t know where you’re going until the last day of spring break, and then it’s a scramble to find an apartment or something," says Cooper. "Sometimes you’ll get lucky enough to have a host family, but most places you have to go out and find your own place. That’s really tough at times when you want your own personal space."

During this edition of Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe talks with Cooper about the uncertainty that comes along with life in the minor league. She also talks with Roger Horton, who has camped at the State Fair Campground every year for the last two decades, and Char and Tom Perreault who are host and hostess at Palisades State Park.
