Letters Home to Hero Street

The U.S. Military lost more than 400,000 troops fighting in World War II. Frank Sandoval was one of them.

During this Talk of Iowa interview, we hear excerpts of the letters Sandoval sent home during the war, and host Charity Nebbe talks with Tammy and Kelly Rundle, filmmakers for the new documentary “Letters Home to Hero Street.”

2nd Street in Silvia, Illinois where Sandoval grew up, has been called “Hero Street” since 1969. More men died fighting in wars from 2nd Street than from any other block in America.
