Timothy Barrett has dedicated his life to unwrapping the mysteries of paper. Barrett, of the University of Iowa, won a MacArthur Foundation "Genius Grant," in 2009 and the paper he makes by hand helps preserve such documents as the Declaration of Independence. We'll talk to him about the paper he's been making recently. Later in the hour, our discussion turns to Karl King, who composed over three hundred songs in his lifetime, 200 of those were marches. His music made him famous around the world, but he chose to live and work in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Charity speaks to Professor Emeritus of Music at Drake University, Robert D. Weast, who writes about King in the latest "Iowa History Journal."
