Iowa's Economy Chugs Along

Clay Masters, Iowa Public Radio

Two views of the Iowa economy released Tuesday show steady growth, but not at the rate of recent months.

The surveys come from the Iowa Business Council and Creighton University’s Mid-America Business Conditions Index.

The overall economic outlook for the third-quarter of 2015 from the Council is off 12 points from last month and nine points from a year ago.

But 86 percent of the Chief Executive Officers surveyed say they expect steady or increased sales over the next six months. Ninety percent anticipate more capital spending. They say hiring is also likely to climb.

The Business Conditions Index for Iowa compiled by Creighton economist Ernie Goss was down slightly in August.

Goss says his survey results point to positive but weak gains for the state’s economy for the remainder of the year.
