Iowan Joe Michaud on Patrolling the Berlin Wall

A checkpoint on the Berlin Wall

Joe Michaud was a border guard for the US Army working along the East/West border in Germany starting in 1959.

  On New Year’s Eve in 1962, he was airlifted to Berlin and told to patrol the Berlin Wall. He talks with Charity Nebbe about his experience in Germany and describes his book “Along the Iron Curtain: Border Patrol in the Cold War.”
