The Iowa legislative calendar has the last day of the 2014 session falling late next month. Last week Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, a Democrat from Council Bluffs, said Iowa Republicans and Democrats have gotten better working together.

“In each of the last three years, we got better at figuring out how to work together rather than to focus on our disagreements," Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal (D-Council Bluffs) said. "It’s always a challenge to come out of an election that’s about defining our differences and move to a position where governing is about identifying common ground”

Talks could be could going so well, lawmakers could adjourn earlier than expected this session.

“But I will tell you I think we’re having very good conversation. We’re working towards the end," Paulsen said. "I absolutely think we’ll adjourn ahead of the 100th scheduled day.”

Paulsen said lawmakers are about a month ahead of where they were last session.
