Hunting Decline

The number of hunters in Iowa is declining. The reasons are many and complicated. Fewer pheasants in the state, for instance, have meant fewer pheasant hunters. But, the overall result is less revenue for the state, declining funding for wildlife programs and, some say, a weaker connection to the land and nature. We talk about what's driving the trend and what it all means for the future. Guests include, Willie Suchy from the Iowa DNR, John Linquist with Pheasants Forever, John Quintas, Ventura Fire Chief and Andy Long from JAX Outdoor Gear in Ames.
