The deadline to sign up for insurance under Iowa’s health insurance exchanges created by the Affordable Care Act is Sunday.
Director for the University of Iowa’s Public Policy Center Pete Damiano says for those in need of health insurance, visitinghealthcare.gov is the best place to start shopping.
“They got that turned around. It’s now really the best source in terms of finding out what plans are available in your area and what the costs are. You don’t have to put in your personal information to get started. You can just put in your zip code, and you can walk through what plans are available in terms of what the cost might be. In addition, there is a tab at the site that is called 'find local help.'"
Damiano says there are fewer choices for Iowans this year because of the collapse of Co-opportunity Health. If you need health insurance, Damiano suggests Iowans start by going to www.healthcare.gov. There are also certified counselors available to help in person by calling 1-800-318-259.
