Empty Fort Madison Prison Draws Attention Amid Ballooning Project Budget

Iowa’s new state penitentiary in Fort Madison is still empty, and now officials are worried about frozen pipes.

That’s adding to the project’s ballooning budget. During this half hour on River to River, host Ben Kieffer and Iowa Public Radio Statehouse Correspondent Joyce Russell talk with Republican Representative Bobby Kaufman and Democratic Representative Vicki Lensing about how lawmakers are reacting to the several mistakes that now plague the new prison.
