Double Feature of "Don Giovanni" Live Broadcasts

Iowa Public Radio is pleased to bring you two special live broadcasts this January featuring the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. The first broadcast showcases several cast members in a snapshot Studio One performance on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at noon. The second is Iowa Public Radio’s Performance Iowa live broadcast of the opera from the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.

Mozart’s masterpiece revolves around the womanizing scoundrel Don Giovanni (fashioned after the legendary Don Juan). The performance, under the baton of the CROT’s founder and artistic director Daniel Kleinknecht, along with University of Oklahoma professor and guest director William Ferrara, provides a mixture of comedy and tragedy. The plot follows Don Giovanni as he continues down a path that eventually leads to his own destruction.

Baritone Christopher Burchett performs the title role of Don Giovanni, with baritone Lee Poulis as his servant, Leporello. Soprano Veronica Mitina appears as Donna Elvira; soprano Danielle Talamantes as Donna Anna; soprano Jessica Pray as Zerlina; tenor Jonathan Blalock sings the role of Don Ottavio; and Samuel Wright performs as Masetto. These seven talented artists, along with John Hollins on the piano, will sing and discuss opera highlights from Iowa Public Radio’s Studio One.

Join Iowa Public Radio’s Performance Iowa on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at noon for operatic selections from the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Then, tune in again for Iowa Public Radio’s Performance Iowa broadcast of the entire performance, live from the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.
