A handful of new laws go into effect July 1 as a result of the 2015 legislative session. Among those that will be most noticeable for the general public – Iowans will be able to buy growlers full of craft beers brewed in Iowa anywhere that has a class "C" alcohol license. That includes grocery stores and gas stations, for example.

"Essentially, retail establishments can buy kegs from craft breweries and then you can bring in your growler and fill it up. It’s sealed to take care of open container laws, and then you’re on your way,” says Iowa Public Radio's Statehouse Correspondent Joyce Russell.

Russell notes that due to the equipment needed to fill growlers with keg beer, the law mostly benefits craft breweries for now.

During this River to River conversation, host Ben Kieffer talks with Russell about the state's new growler along with a few others taking effect.
