A persistent pooch named Sissy snuck out of her Cedar Rapids home on Friday morning, in a quest to find her owner.

Nancy Franck had been in the hospital for the past week due to complications of a cancer-related surgery.

Sissy took it upon herself to walk the twelve blocks to Mercy Medical Center and entered the lobby. The dog was briefly reunited with Nancy when Nancy’s daughter, Sara Wood, came to get Sissy and take her home to recount her adventures to the family’s other dog.

“We could only stay a few minutes but I’m sure she enjoyed every second of that few minutes," says Sara Wood. "I’m sure that Sissy went home and told Barney, ‘Guess who I got to see and what I got to do and where I went?’”

The family told their story on Iowa Public Radio’s Talk of Iowa. Hear more Talk of Iowa storiesweekdays at 10 a.m. CST, on Iowa Public Radio.
