Ape House: a Novel

In an archive program, writer Sara Gruen speaks with IPR's Charity Nebbe. Gruen, author of the highly-regarded "Water for Elephants," did much of the research for her new novel at the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines. Gruen says most of the conversations between the bonobos and humans in "Ape House" are based on actual conversations with great apes, including Koko, Washoe, Booey, Kanzi, and Panbanisha.

Charity Nebbe is the host of IPR's Talk of Iowa
