Event Description

In the mid 1800’s Iowa City, along with the rest of the state and nation, saw a boom in commercial studio photography. Portrait painters were often early adopters of the new equipment and tools and brought photographs within the reach of average families. See rare daguerreotypes, original photography equipment, and images of early Iowa City residents in this brand-new exhibit. "Faces of Iowa through the Early Lens" draws on the collections of the State Historical Society of Iowa and local historical societies throughout the state.
