Pick the New Name, Win Your Own HD Radio
Our new 10am talk show is going to be good. Really good. Really, really good.
It would be even better if we had a name for it.
We’ve exhausted ourselves trying to come up with a name that’s short, sweet, describes what we’re trying to do with the show, and will “wear well” over time. So, we’d like your input. There’s an HD Radio in it for the person who contributes the name we choose for the show.
Want a few hints? Here’s a little about this new talk show. We want it to be focused on depth, perspective and context - an exploration of the day’s top news and an examination of how it fits into the bigger picture of life in Iowa, the United States, North America, our planet. The program might cover breaking Iowa news, or it might take time to look at an issue that doesn’t get much coverage, even though it should. In short, we want listeners to see this program as the destination when there’s anything important happening in the state.
This program will also cover Iowa arts and culture. We’ll likely feature interviews and conversations with artists, authors, musicians and some of the state’s most well-known citizens. It will be a stimulating, interesting, thoughtful program, and it will also be fun: once a month, we’ll access the collective intelligence of listeners to answer nagging questions on “Big Brain.” The show will go on the road regularly, to take important issues directly to audiences around the state.
Does that sound like a program you want to listen to? If so, what would you call it? Leave a comment here, with your idea for a title. Be sure to leave a working email address. We’ll award an HD Radio to the person who contributes the title we choose for the program. I two or more individuals suggest the same winning title, we’ll award the radio to the person who submitted the winning suggestion first.

“Iowa 360″ or “Iowa Complete” might work.
But you could always go with “The O’Kieffer Factor” or “Kieffer Kountry.”

Man is this a BORING schedule. All night with the BBC everywhere. No music reruns on KUNI late night. No On Point or other Boston based shows-Almost everything out of Washington. Talk of the Nation has been pretty consistantly wishy-washy for the last couple of years, I hope you are getting subsidies from the administration (to help the local economy}. The advantage of local Public Radio is that it can be community based and community supported, with great variety. How about a little imagination here. You don’t need to become the Clear Channel of Public Radio.

I like the new schedule, actually — my three favorite shows are now grouped on Saturday morning, and “World Cafe” got left in place.
