Some were joyful for many Iowans like the reinstating of wrestling to the Olympic games, some set the stage for a change in Iowa politics like the retirement announcements from US Senator Tom Harkin and Congressman Tom Latham. And some were painful like the kidnapping and murder of Kathlynn Shepard.

2013 Iowa Teacher of the Year

Governor Terry Branstad has named veteran Cedar Rapids educator Tania Johnson  the 2013 Iowa Teacher of the Year.

Johnson spent most of her 22-year teaching career in Cedar Rapids kindergarten classrooms before she accepted a teacher leadership position with her school district this fall.
